RHD Workshop Trainers Manual

The “Rheumatic Heart Disease Workshop Trainers Manual” was developed by Sara Noonan and Elizabeth Kennedy as a part of the Pacific Rheumatic Heart Disease Control Program (PRHDCP)’s country supported activities in the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Kiribati, and Fiji. The manual was developed in partnership with the Menzies School of Health Research, the Centre for International Child Health in Melbourne, Australia, World Heart Federation, and Australian AID. The training manual was piloted at the Pacific Regional RHD Train the Trainers Workshop held in Nadi, Fiji in July 2013.

The RHD workshop program is designed for health workers and other key people involved in the diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in the Pacific region.

The manual includes the following sections:

  1. Overview of rheumatic fever and RHD in the Pacific region
  2. Sample workshop agendas
  3. Workshop session materials
  4. Sample evaluation forms
  5. Group activities
  6. Sample medical forms
