Ethiopia DM Training Materials

In 2005, Debub University in Ethiopia published training materials for diabetes mellitus management in Ethiopian health centers, including type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. These materials were developed in collaboration with the Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative, The Carter Center, USAID, the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), and the Ethiopia Ministry of Education. The development of the training module was reviewed through a series of workshops, meetings, and individual reviewers.

The training materials include sections on:

  1. Introduction – purpose and direction for use
  2. Core Clinical Module – pre and post tests, learning objectives, clinical training materials on diabetes epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, and management
  3. Satellite Modules – training materials designed for additional health workers
  4. Annexes

Satellite modules include training materials for public health officers, public health nurses, medical laboratory technicians, environmental health technicians, and health service extension workers.

A Ethiopia Public Health Training Initiative module for RHD clinical management in Ethiopia was also developed in 2005. Additional training materials for other health problems, including HIV/AIDS, diarrhea, neglected tropical diseases, and maternal and child health are also available on the Carter Center website.
