A global scope for global health — including mental health

Author: Guiseppe Raviola, Anne E Becker, Paul Farmer

November 5, 2011

Topics: Advocacy

Condition: Mental Health, Neurological Conditions

Global scope for mental health | The Lancet | Volume 378, Issue 9803, pp. 1613-1615

“Delivery of mental health services in low-resource settings lags unacceptably and unjustly far behind that of other services […] We join the call for the inclusion of mental health in a comprehensive health agenda for the world’s poorest populations. The pragmatic and moral imperatives are self-evident: without mental health care,
there is no justice.
“

Written by Dr. Guiseppe Raviola, Dr. Anne Becker, and Dr. Paul Farmer, this commentary published in The Lancet in 2011 outlines the need for mental health services among the world’s poorest populations and heralds a call for the inclusion global mental health into priorities for global health.
